Artist Demo and Workshop
Alter This! An Introduction to Making Altered Books with Artist/Instructor Sherrill Hunnibell,
Co-Sponsored with The Peabody Institute Library
Beginning with an introduction and sharing session, acclaimed artist, Sherrill Hunnibell will present a variety of approaches to making altered books. During workshop, we will be experimenting with materials and exploring ways books can be transformed structurally through simple means of folding, tearing, cutting and pasting. Focus is
placed on the creative process, as being essential to thinking-outside the-box and to the overall well being of the human spirit. Participants will bring a discarded hardcover book
(or two) of their choice to alter and provide their own tools and materials. Suggested materials include adhesives, scissors, mat
knife, wire, thread, large eye needle,
paint, colored pencils or markers,
wax paper, magazines, any other assemblage stuff, photocopies of
sentimental items such as letters, photos, found objects, etc. Bottom line, if it fits the scale and intent of your altered book idea, go for it!
1pm to 4pm, gallery 62 @ DAA
DAA Auction Success
Our annual auction was a great success once again this year thanks to the hard work of many of our members and generous donations of friends and local businesses. It was really a beautiful evening, the food, the décor, the items auctioned…it seems to get better each year! And we certainly had a huge turnout this year. Over 100 bidders and unofficially, we raised nearly $8,000 for the restoration and maintenance of the Williams School. Thank you all, especially Aimee, Martha, Marian, Pat, Ed and John.
